A multidisciplinary approach to peritoneal carcinomatosis (radical surgery + hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy - CRS+HIPEC) is a complex, costly therapeutic procedure, one  which is being seen increasingly as an option of choice the world over.

In order to ensure, from the outset, excellence in terms of the results of the application of the procedure, the setting up of new units specialising in the clinical application of CRS + HIPEC requires the health authorities to establish strategic plans, based on the goals established in the different national or regional health masterplans. The support of the centre/institution involved in the project, the existence of the technology and specialised multidisciplinary teams  under clearly established leadership, continuous training for the care team, the definition  of intra and extramural therapeutic protocols and care circuits, the coordination of the different levels of care, evaluation and transparent diffusion of the results, etc.. are but a few of the aspects to be considered as priorities when implementing and organizing such teams. The scientific societies will have to participate in defining the features of such units and in establishing the standards of accreditation required for the components thereof, as well as ensuring the quality of the care they offer and of their scientific makeup.

On a domestic level, we have experience that validates such strategic design, considered today as a standard of reference.

This Pre-Course meeting shall discuss the organisation, implementation and operation of such peritoneal carcinomatosis units in the US, Europe and Spain as well as the experience of the Catalan Programme for Peritoneal Carcinomatosis (accredited by the health authorities and taken as a standard of reference in diverse regions of Spain).

The format for the meeting will be first to hear the talks and recommendations of our panel speakers, and then open the floor up to discussion to tackle the issues brought up by consolidated, emerging or incipient units, while also tackling the different forms of funding (public/private).

18.40-19.00 hrs. INFORMATIVE SESSION:
